I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

What are some best practices for handling an employee with dare I say, too much initiative? They tend to steamroll others and processes because they are so fast at their job and rather than taking a breather when done, start digging around for new projects outside of their scope. We value them but want to ensure others are given opportunity to thrive too.

I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Looking for advice on project management software or tools for HR consulting. Our firm doesn’t have anything that is standard or used at all, and while some of us are starting to venture into using Microsoft Teams, I feel like there are so many tools out there and we could be doing things way more efficiently. We work in small client teams (1-3 team members per client usually) and it’s a mix of strategy, tactical, and outsourced HR work. Any suggestions?
How much value do companies place on HR experience in a specific industry? My thought is that HR is HR wherever you go, and it shouldn’t be difficult to switch industries (e.g. manufacturing to financial services), mid- to late-career. But what has been your experience?
How long do you typically allow for self assessments and manager assessments for year-end? This year we gave employees a week and managers 3 weeks (holidays not included), but they still said it wasn’t long enough even though most waited until the very last day to complete them.
Is your organization planning to require employees be vaccinated? I understand why management wants this but concerned about losing good employees because they don’t believe in vaccination or are wanting to wait until more people have been vaccinated to see if there are issues with it. I’m also concerned with moral if we require this. Employees may get it to keep there job but hold on to some bitterness or develop anxiety over it. Am I being too soft or over analyzing?
My GC application was submitted back in Oct of last year. Biometrics in April 1st, but ever since I have not heard any update (nor w the EAD or the Parole), my project might be coming to an end in the near term, and I wonder what would happen if my contract gets terminated? Will the application remain since its been more than 180 days?
