For teachers of elementary music. Ask and discuss issues and opinions for our classrooms and teaching experiences.

How are you preparing your music classroom for long term shut down? I put small stuff away. Covered all shelves, floor drums, Orff instruments with sheets to deter dust accumulation.

Out of curiosity, how do you all feel about the “haha, recorder is a joke” jab from other teachers? While I enjoy a good laugh, it kind of bothers me coming from non-music teachers.

What are some VERY SIMPLE yet engaging activities (that don’t involve paper and pencil) that you use on the first days of general music? I teach 4th and 5th grade.

How do you set up your classroom? What can you tell me about how often you use instruments? What do you do to make them accessible? Thanks so much.

If anyone needs awesome, fun music activities, search Vincent Bates on youtube. He's a music education professor and has his music education students play music games so we can learn, too!
