What are some VERY SIMPLE yet engaging activities (that don’t involve paper and pencil) that you use on the first days of general music? I teach 4th and 5th grade.

I use some call and response movement songs ( way down yonder in the brickyard) and a stone passing game. I have also done some body percussion rondos and because I taught 95 percent of them last year we sometimes will do orff instruments on the first day in 5th grade. I like to set the tone of making music right away... prochedures are essential and we do cover those the first day but I make sure we start and end with music.

I am trying a Guess the Mystery instrument. I am putting a hand instrument inside a sealed bag. They can shake it, feel it, and see if they can guess what it is. I have 5 bags and will use equal number teams. Trying it at least.

I like to have students introduce themselves in a circle by having themselves say, “my name is....”. And tap a drum to the syllables of their name.

over 40. made a transition from UX to copy. been a CW for 3 years, sup for 1. how are job prospects in NYC?

I have been in private sector for 6 years since I graduated and want to switch to public accounting. I will have the first call with a KMPG recruiter after this week. What should I say to impress him?

I constantly feel guilty for logging off early even on one day a week - well not early but I worked from 8:30am-6:30pm and feel like I’m the only one not online currently. I also obsessively keep checking teams on my phone to see who else at my level is working longer hours. I know this doesn’t sound normal so please help with any suggestions!!!

How often do you guys text the person you just started dating? Daily or every couple of days or something? Im used to frequently interacting with someone im interested in, but the guy i just started seeing is just rarely on whatsapp. When we are together we do talk a lot and there’s chemistry.

Dont get me wrong, i dont need to text all day, but most men ive dated would drop a message every now and then, while this guy doesn’t. curious about your experiences!

I have a non-stem bachelors and had to do a Masters in Data Analytics to become a “data scientist” and have had the title for about 2 years now. However, the work I’m doing isn’t very interesting and is mostly dash-boarding/extracting basic insights from data, and I still feel like I’m limited so am seriously considering a software engineering boot camp to be able to jump into big tech and work on interesting stuff. Anyone did something similar?

Hello!
I just received an offer from Deloitte USDC coming on as a Investigations Senior Consultant @ $110k, $5k signing bonus, 100% remote position (requested) Can Someone explain what benefits are afforded to me? Is the 401k match the same? Recruiter stated 3 weeks and 3 days of PTO…does that mean 18 days or 24 days? Also, can someone clarify the parental leave policy as compared to core? Can these be negotiated? I’ve been a 10 year Special Agent/Federal Agent and Officer with the military. Tx!

Additional Posts in Elementary Music Teachers

Hey! I’m planning to take an Orff Level 1 course this summer. Any tips, tricks, or advice as I prepare? Also, what other trainings would you recommend for elementary general music teachers? Thanks in advance!

What are some of your favortie end of year activities?

Did anyone else’s back-to-school plan not include music at all? I’ve been told I’m still supposed to teach music this year, but they haven’t announced any plans for it yet. You’d think the classes that contain the most students per day would be a higher concern 🙃

So how are you planing to do mallet work this year with disinfecting in between kids, classes, etc?

Out of curiosity, how do you all feel about the “haha, recorder is a joke” jab from other teachers? While I enjoy a good laugh, it kind of bothers me coming from non-music teachers.

I have a hand full of k-5 students who have gone the first half of the school year without music because of remote learning. Our district is moving to 100% traditional teaching after the MLK holiday. Any suggestions for reintroducing concepts to the group of students that’ll be joining us f2f for music the first time this school year?

How often and for how long do you see your kids?

How do you set up your classroom? What can you tell me about how often you use instruments? What do you do to make them accessible? Thanks so much.

I put small stuff away. Covered all shelves, floor drums, Orff instruments with sheets to deter dust accumulation.
