I think it’s normal to still have interviews even after a recruiter reaches out to you but yes in a way it is that company‘s job to sell themselves because they initially wanted you but the interview process should go both ways then making sure you’re a good fit for each other
I totally get your frustration! It feels like a bit of a role reversal when they reach out to you but then make you jump through hoops. In a way, it's still a way for them to ensure you're a good fit, but they should be selling themselves too. I’d say keep your boundaries strong.. it's a two-way street!
I see it as a formality to show you have at least a bit of interest in the position. After all, if you don't care, you won't bother. Helps separate those who just had a nice chat with the company from those who got interested.
They see something in you, so hopefully a great match for them and you.
But still a “pitch” opportunity to fully sell yourself.
You can lay out all your strengths, the type of work you do best and love to do. How they respond is as much a test for you as them. If they value what you bring to the creative table, they’ll provide an offer you’ll feel good about.
If not, they aren’t appreciating what you’d contribute and it wouldn’t be a great place for you anyway.
Not much different from any other job interview—you interest them and they want to have a firmer sense of what they’d get by bringing you on. Likewise, you have a chance to ask them about the work they do, how they do it, the culture they encourage and see if they’d be a good fit for what you’re looking for.
You still have to wow them with an in person interview
