Anyone else feeling hopeless about this job market? Ive been let go for 3 weeks now and only got 1 first round interview. Even though the roles im applying for i am qualified for. It's just been really discouraging. I have a lot of really great experience but i feel like im up against machines scanning my resume. Ive tailored every resume to every job i applied to btw. Its time consuming but it hasn't helped. Not sure what else to do as most of my network is also out of work. Any advice?

Please put things in perspective- 3 weeks is NOTHING. Most job searches take about 5-6 months now. Keep going and you’ll get there .

Wow ok i need to calm down then lol

I’ve been laid off for 2 years. It’s been 3 years since I’ve had a job that makes a livable wage since getting laid off from a six figure corporate job. All I’m saying is: don’t underestimate this market. 3 weeks is just starting. I wish you the best in your journey. Try to create opportunities for yourself. Creating a business has helped me meet ends. This market is terrible, not you so keep your chin up.

Appreciate the encouragement. Wishing you the best!

How many candidates have you ghosted

None actually. My company had a policy that everyone gets feedback whether we move forward with them or not.

Do you read multiple books at once? Power through one at a time? Do you set a page or chapter daily/weekly goal? Only do audiobooks? Please share your reading habits so we 🐟 can borrow/steal like artists 🎨.

For me, I set 20-30 pg min/night and listen to a different audiobook to/from work. The audiobook thing is new as I've never read >1 at once. Considering 1 chapter/night w/ 3 different books (3 ch/night)... I just want to read them all though not sure - may muddle if one > others.

Has anyone left big 4 or other PA firms tax transaction service groups for industry (or know of anyone)? What was the role and salary bump, how are annual bonuses/raises in industry, what is a typical work week (hours) like? I don’t think I can take this always on just to stay afloat life much longer. For context I am considered a high performer, am near the top of the salary band at my level and have a great supporting network at Deloitte. It’s just not worth it to have zero personal life.

I have been laid off going on 3 months now and I’ve never felt so discouraged in my life. This job hunt for me has been frustrating and draining. It really has taken a toll on my mental health and maybe even confidence. I feel like I’m losing momentum. Any advice on staying positive throughout this journey? It’s so hard to stay upbeat and motivated at times.
