I worked client side for a bit and they thought an Art Director is the boss (the director in the title…), you gotta take into account stuff like that too.

CD1. Yes, I see your point. The Account role is def more of a partnership with the CD in-house. No feedback gets shared with internal “clients” without total alignment with the rest of the creative team. And, with everyone being measured by shared company goals the creative leads have much more power to push back against crap briefs.
True story: Most in-house creative departments only refer to the work product from art directors and designers as “the creative”. Whereas copy is just copy. But if you understood the function of most in-house departments, this would make perfect sense 😂
They’ll actually refer to your ads as “the creatives” 🤣😂🤣🤟🏼$$$$

It’s not abnormal for CDs to have to roll up their sleeves and AD on some stuff. The teams are usually pretty thin but get a ton of work. That is usually coupled with actual effective people management and people development responsibilities.

There is an increase in new internal teams being built, and that is usually being done by people who have never actually built a creative team. You may be seeing posts for places like that, but not for the seasoned in-house agencies that have been around for a while.
For a lot of startups, a “Creative Director” is someone who designs the website and app, and things like that. A “copywriter” is a person they just laid off and replaced with ChatGPT.
