In my limited experience, gov jobs seem to trend older than public. I am in my mid 30s and one of the youngest working here.

I've worked in both the private sector and public sector. You will experience less ageism in government. Absolutely. Breaking into civil service can be a challenge. But once you're in, you're in. Applying for various jobs becomes easier. Good luck to you.

I totally get your concern. While government jobs are often seen as more stable, ageism can still be an issue, especially in highly competitive or fast-paced sectors. But many government roles value experience, and you might actually be at an advantage with your background. If you're considering the shift, try reaching out to others who've made the same transition for insights

It's hard to quantify, but I would assume government work is less ageist than the private sector. There seem to be more safeguards against it and more transparency in the hiring process, at least in theory. And it's not unusual to encounter people who have gravitated over from the private sector. So making that move is definitely worth exploring, you may find a position in public service to your liking.

If you have a good technical skill or body of knowledge in a specific area, it is possible to get a job in the federal government at any age. I did in my 50's. However, beware managers who will assume you are not interested in promotions or developmental opportunities. There is internal ageism. You will have to let it be known you are interested in moving up or laterally. Of course don't come in the door saying this. But after your first year or two in the position, IF you are interested in career progression, make it known. And apply for other jobs internally.

Anyone use Wealthfront as an investment platform? Likes, dislikes, thoughts?

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?
