At Amquest Education's software engineering program, a bunch of students had backgrounds in stuff other than computer science – like business, even managing hotels. But some of them still landed software jobs at startups and product companies. How? They zeroed in on what matters: data structures, algorithms, basic system design, and doing actual projects.
Thing is, most tech interviews aren't about what degree you have. They want to see if you can figure stuff out, write good code, and explain your thinking. You should know your way around platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank. Also, you should be able to break down what you built and the reasoning behind it. A solid GitHub profile and always working on projects can be even better than just a degree.
A degree can give you a boost, sure. But in the end, skills and getting ready are way more important.
