I'm the same boat, except i want to go to. PA ti MT. Why sell? Incorporate tech and do it right and a majority of your clients will stay and then you have a base so starting from scratch in a new area isn't so daunting.
Form your own RIA first, if not already, then be totally free. Why rebuild, you don't have to.
Hmm. More Tricky. Can you take Anthony with you? Where do you want to move. If you have some baseline of clients and income....maybe. Hard to start from zero...unless your wife makes 300k.
Anything not Anthony....unless he is really good at business development
I'm leaving next year for MT from PA. I've made contact and travelled in person to meet another advisor with my b/d who lives in the town I'm going to. He's older. I told him my plans and said I would buy his book someday when he's ready. So I'm keeping my clients and staying with same firm. If I had to start over, I would go to RIA.
I'm in the 403b world....my company is an approved provider in my districts...so if I leave...i don't have access to any of my clients.
That's a lot of clients. Likely a buyer would only want the top 100. Usually a sale price is 2 or 3 years current income generated
I'd like to know. I'm doing the same thing next year.
How much would you be willing to sell your book of business for? Also what area are you located in?
Hey are we allowed to exchanged information on here?
I ask because I am with Lincoln Investment as well and was curious to your location to see if you are close to me.
I would be interested in purchasing your book. Please contact me.
Hey guys...this isn't an ad to try and sell my book of business. I am interested in hearing from someone with experience in buying/selling a 6 figure book of business.
Buying and selling books is a daunting task. Especially when you may not be around to help your clients transition to the new guy/gal. Also what if new rep treats clients poorly...what recourse do you have? All of this has to be solved in the contract. Selling your book right before a big move could prove very troublesome. Do you have the option to sell the book and stay for transition for six months or so? Also how do you expect to be paid? Percentage of rev? Up front? Over x number of years? This is extremely important as it will dictate how you have to pay for the book in the new town. This is a bit to complex of a question for me to address on here. As with everything in our industry...research every option
