Can someone explain to me why the government doesn’t just freeze rent and mortgage payments during coronavirus and then provide unemployment to those who need it? Seems like everyone could get a temporary free pass if the fed on down forgives loan payments throughout the crisis, and unemployment benefits / stimulus provided to individuals could be significantly lower without having to factor in rent. What am I missing here?
This month I won a few million after taxes in the lottery. My question is do I quit or keep working so I have something to do and have health insurance? Debating working until I decide what I want to do next? If it matters - 40 in Manhattan.
Can someone explain to me the $600 additional weekly unemployment benefits that ppl will begin receiving? I now have an unemployed friend who will be making more than me....
My neighbor is an air traffic controler and makes over 100k at 23 with an associates degree. They also get a pension and a mandatory retirement age of 56. Are there other gov jobs that are this cushy?
People who stand up as soon as the plane lands, can you explain why? Not being snarky, but I don't see how it benefits much?
If you were offered 50% of your compensation and full benefits to take a 6-12 month ‘break’ from your job would you take it? Because that may be coming to you very soon.
Hey fellow 🐠 just wanted to have a place to share without coming off as boastful on social media. I recently was able to pay off my massive student loan debt and car loan as well. I’ve saved 20k in cash (which could last me over a year since I live in low COL city) and have 20k in my 401k. I know it may not be much to other consultants, but I’m only 24 and went through an abusive childhood so I feel incredibly grateful to be where I am today. Thank you for letting me brag on myself!
I’ve heard that getting up extra early every day (~2+ hours before you start work, commute, etc) is good for mental health/happiness as you actually enjoy the morning. Anyone do this and see any benefits?
My wife doesn’t invest her money in stocks, mutual funds , CDs. She just has a 401k and all her savings go into a savings account which basically yields nothing. I coax her into investing and have often told her about inflation over the years and lower of compounding but she is too scared that investing would take her money away. You guys have similar issues and how have you dealt with it ?
Hey 🐠 - I’m early in my pregnancy and interviewing bc I’m afraid of being laid off soon. How can I find out from the firms I interview with whether they have minimum tenure requirements to qualify for paid maternity leave (e.g., need to be at firm 1 year before qualifying)? Obviously, this is the most important benefit for me and I will not be revealing my pregnancy during the interview process. Anyone been through this and have any advice? TIA
All, my wife is pregnant and we are expecting our first child soon. My wife’s job has standard unpaid 12 weeks maternity leave. Is it likely I’ll be able to take 2-3 months or is that just “you have it but can’t take it” policy where I’ll be penalized at year end?
How much did you have saved in savings + 401k at 23? Seeing peers at better firms making 200+ at 25 and saving as much as my after tax income 😓
Travel perks were one of the most attractive benefits in Consulting. How do firms plan to stay lucrative in the new world?
Hypothetically, if student loans are forgiven, should some benefits be extended to those who paid off their student loans aggressively or chose public over private institutions?
What are some life changes you’ve made that have made you a lot happier? How long did it take to experience the benefits?
Overheard: “Company X should make a stronger effort to hire from HBCUs”. I don’t understand why they should/what the benefits are. Can someone explain?
Having 129 Base salary , wife doesn’t have job anymore , saving 40k , 401k saving 25k , is it advisable to put all my cash saving 40k and buy a house worth 450k. I live a simple life , car loan .....
Paid off my loans/credit card debt. I barely have any savings. Is the next move to shoot for a 6 month safety fund or to max out my 401k?
I wish I could get pregnant, so I can go on a maternity leave from public accounting - I’m a male.
Tempted to pull my entire 401k portfolio out of stocks and into cash and safer assets in the short term. I don't trust the market and think it's a bubble waiting for a correction. Is this a bad move?
Ridiculously beginner questions but: 1) is the max 401k ($19,500) that you can save per year including employer contributions? 2) hypothetically what happens if I set my contribution rate too high and don't correct it? Let's say I make $100k and set my rate to be 30% which would result in my saving to much. Are there safeguards against this or do I get penalized? Thanks!
Hey all! Currently live in DC and thinking about moving to either: Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, or stay in DC. Where would you move/live considering: cost of living, housing prices, and job market. I feel like LA has a rough job market in terms of competitiveness of applications compared to DC/Austin but benefits elsewhere. Feel free to share anything else I should know! Thanks!
I’m 23 and don’t have any student loans. I have about 70k saved up and want to kick start investment / planning for the future. Where do i begin besides 401k? Any advice would be appreciated :)
Any financial advice for us younger professionals who have not weathered a recession? I’m nearly three years out of college and it freaks me out to see my (small) 401k losing thousands of dollars.
We break our backs for firms like EY and others. Yet our so called prestigious firms go for health insurance that doesn’t even cover for basics such as flu shots. The corporations are literally jabbing it in our neck!
Savy investors: I have a 401k and a S&P 500 index fund. I’ve lost about $7,000 across both. Are you buying, selling, or holding based on market volatility today? Advice needed
How can I become more “okay” with being an average performer? I’m two years out of school and have been considered a high performer so far, but it’s taken a toll on my mental health and I feel anxious most days. I’ve realized that the cost of being a high performer outweighs the benefits, and am trying to loosen up and be more comfortable with coasting on occasion... I’m what people may consider an insecure overachiever. Has anybody here ever had the same feeling?
Everyone is different. Different circumstances, etc. I get it. At 30 how much do you/did you have in 401k and Savings? Do you/did you own a home?
Hey 🐠 , female here! wanted to know 1) if being pregnant during promo year affect anything negatively? Coz u ll immediately take maternity leave? 2) can anyone who was in maternity leave for that performance year go up for promotion and get promoted?

Ladies, I recently left consulting for a VP level job in industry. I report to another VP so they choose to “withhold that title for my functional title.” Have all the benefits and sig authority....
So, Trump is giving corporations a 20% tax break and is taking away the tax benefit of contributing to your 401k. So he effectively took our money and gave it to corporations. Take that middle class.
All 🐠 with firms that provide pensions... Best advice for vested pension when leaving your firm? Should you take lump sum or leave it? Manager level but been with firm since college graduation.
Going back to work in a couple weeks after being on maternity leave. Already sad and upset at the thought of leaving my little one. How do you cope those first days and weeks back to work?

What does the process look like when applying to a job in a different country for a senior creative? Do they fly you there to talk or is it all by phone? If job is taken, are relo benefits standard?
Currently expecting and haven’t told my agency yet. Have worked here 7yrs & never seen a woman in the Creative dept go on maternity leave & return to work. Only seen it in other departments. Ugh.
Had a serious debate with a hipster last night. Was there anyway for America to get all of the idealistic benefits of Bernie Sanders without losing half my paycheck? Solve that and i'll feel the bern
Why are people so bad at 401ks. I just overheard someone tell another person they should pay down principal on a car loan instead of putting the extra into 401k. WHY.

What do firms like doordash and Uber pay their strategy and operations associates? Glassdoor seems incorrect
I'm really good at my job, a high performer and have visibility with partners. However, I hate it. I wake up in the mornings feeling angry and resentful. I'm not able to exercise creativity as I'd like to, and feel I'd be happier in a completely different field. I'm scared to leave behind the reputation I've built. Big 4, it's safe/comfortable/addictive and Im addicted to being on cruise control. Anyone else been through the same?
Anyone else hoping they get laid off? Not really feeling PA and think this may be my only way out
What are the perks like at MBB? Particularly interested in phone coverage - trying to decide whether to buy a new phone under Accenture’s plan or wait it out.
Watching America just shrug after over 190,000 of our own died from COVID and then blissfully try to re-elected the same idiot responsible, made me start to question if we just deserve all of these negative consequences. Maybe we will learn some day
