Age 36. $1M in my investment accounts across 401K, stocks, bonds etc etc. Curious where others stand. I don't own a house yet.
Anyone pay a career / professional coach? If so what service, why do you do it, what level did you start at, and what benefits did you see coming out of it
I'm a Senior likely to be promoted within my group (consulting gods willing) to manager at EoY. I make enough as is for bills and lifestyle, but not maxing out 401k kinda cash. A position within my company but outside my group that I'm very interested in just opened up. Asking to transfer, in my mind, would likely delay/remove the chance of a promotion, but moving would be more interesting work that I want to do. What would you do?
Is employee stock purchase plan a good investment decision if my 401k savings aren’t even strong or maxed out yet? Discount is 15% and my employer’s stock is expected to perform decently, but I’m still skeptical that it’s a good strategy.
Investing Question - 1) is it smart to have two retirement accounts in the form of a 401k and Roth IRA or does the 401k suffice? 2) is it smarter to invest the Roth IRA money in Bitcoin or an ETF fund, something less conservative and more volatile?
Folks always recommend having 3-6 months of cash on hand for emergencies. As a young (26) and less risk-averse individual, I’m contemplating holding just 3-4kin a high yield savings account and investing all my savings that do not go into my Roth/401k/brokerage accounts in robinhood (indiv stocks and growth ETFs). Need advice: starting a new job in ~2 weeks but on vacation through Thanksgiving. Not on a project right now since I’m on vacation. Slated to start a new project on Monday (which would also be my last week of work). Would you give your 2 week notice today? I am afraid of my employer deciding to terminate me outright. I don’t want to lose health insurance or vacation pay. Also don’t want to burn bridges or be an ass. I work at a consulting firm, in CA, at-will (firm requests 2 weeks as courtesy)
Anyone undertaken the jump across from CA to TX recently? Thoughts on the benefits / drawbacks? How quickly can you stop paying state income tax? 🥸
How are you guys quitting over the holidays? Have a new job that starts jan 4 and I have planned vacation from dec 20-jan 4. 401k match is on dec 31. Want to give 2 weeks to allow for transition (trying to be nice but really don’t care)
Got an offer from a really small consulting firm that offers no health insurance or 401k match. Otherwise the firm seems like a great fit and something I’d love to be a part of. What are some things I should consider with the lack of benefits? I’m thinking I should negotiate a higher offer to make up for it? Thoughts?
I’m not an American, 401k has 0 dollars. All my investment goes to real estate & stock. Is there a reason why I should invest 401k? Decided to move to London when I’m 40.
Anyone here not saving for retirement, i.e. not contributing to a 401k? Main thinking here is the fear that I won’t even live until 65, retirement age being pushed back further by the government, etc. Would just take the money I would normally contribute and invest it myself/use it for fun to enjoy life while I’m young. Anyone doing this/did this and now older? Thoughts?
Is it a bad move to put 2 week notice on dec 20? Plan to be off during then but can do transition work during. Want the 401k year end match and just collect an extra check
Switching jobs and have some time off between the two roles, so I’ll have 1 month without health insurance and also a phone plan... has anyone else dealt with this before? Advice on what to do?
Anyone have thoughts or experience how and where to invest as MBA student with zero income and little savings? Not sure if I should allocate at least some savings into IRA, index like S&P, or elsewhere? I know very little about personal investing and before school, only contributed to a 401k and IRA. Right now any savings is just sitting and stagnant, and I took out loans for school. Wish they taught it at school where I’m paying $200k+ 😂 thanks!
Hey! If staring a LLC, registering in a lower tax state...is that bad? Also seen a lot of DBA options but are there any great tax benefits?
What amount of a sign on bonus would make you leave an employer you love and make you miss out on end of year bonus? (Given the pay and benefits are veerrrrryy agreeable at the new company)
New to the US, can anyone explain me the advantage of 401k? Seems like even though it’s before-tax when you put money there, you will still need to pay income tax when you’re withdrawing (+10% fee if you want to get your money early). Is the only benefit in avoidance of ~15% capital gain tax? Not sure if I want to lock my money for 30+ years in some random mutual fund just for that. What am I missing here?
Is it worth even investing in my 401k right now if I don’t plan on staying at my firm for two years? I believe that’s how long it takes to vest so it seems a lot less attractive without the match
How can you make more money on a travel job? What are the classic examples you know apart from free food, points, per diem etc. I am asking ideas where you beat the system.
Am I able to move all my 401k and ESPP all into one platform? This includes 401k and ESPP for my previous company as well. Or would I have to work with a financial advisor?
Just got my very first 401k. It’s with T Rowe Price, should I select the age based investment or the build your own portfolio? If it’s the latter, what would you recommend. Fresh college hire btw
What is in avg the time of employment for a company to offer 401k matching. ? I have an offer for industry and they will match after 12 months of employment. That will make the raise not as significant. :( Please help me
Has anyone lost their job/health insurance while on medication? I looked into cobra and it is still expensive. I’m on antidepressants which I need but not sure how to get it anymore - I have pretty much no savings being right out of college.
Saw a post on here asking people to share the current breakdown of their networth (401k, IRA, ETFs, etc.) and noticed some people’s investments outside of retirement and brokerage accounts included real estate. How are people successfully building and managing real estate portfolios, especially rental properties, with jobs as demanding as ours?
I have 60k in Cash (High Yield Savings and Checkings accounts). And 60k in Investment Accounts (401k, IRA,Taxable, Etc). Have 2 investment properties. I’m 25, should I be more diversified? I want to make sure I’m capitalizing on my cash as much as possible. Should I be putting more into the Markets in stead of having so much cash?
Firm matches 401k on dec 31. I get $2500 of matching If I leave now I get my vacation day pay out of $3500. However I would like to take the month of December ‘off’ and work quietly and use the vacation days. I’d still collect pay checks while doing nothing. Thoughts? Wondering if new firm would be busy over holidays
Finance/accounting fish -- I need to put down my deposit on my MBA for 2021: 1) cash out investments? 2) 401k loan given I'm going to convert 401k -> IRA to pay for MBA given lower tax rate?
Anyone else feel like health insurance companies (Cigna, CVS, Anthem, etc) have really weird cultures? Always feels likes many of their employees truly believe they’re helping people instead of just squeezing every penny out of people’s health...or am I missing something?
Anyone that works at NTT Data care to share information about the company? Benefits, pay, types of projects.
So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb? Essentially trading tax for the option of actually using my money.
Should I max out my 401k first or max to employer match and then throw the rest in market myself? I see it as why wouldn’t I hit 19.5 as I beat the taxes one time
How much debt do you have? Everyone always asks 401k and retirement balances. Let’s change it up! I’ll start - $1.4MM. 🤭
Have a domestic 6h flight coming up and was thinking of upgrading to business to get a little more personal room during these trying times. Anyone know if they’re still providing meal/drink service in business/other benefits?
What is the bonus like for A&M tax first year associate? Got an offer for their federal tax group, 65k. And it seems like they don’t have a 401k matching program. Assuming the bonus isn’t as glorious as their other groups... is this a good deal?
Anyone been hired through Solomon page temp to perm? How does payment work? They’ve contacted me 3x about a role but I feel like I can’t swallow not having benefits unless I get offered full time. Also getting paid through them seems like it could be sketchy.

Thoughts on income level to switch from Roth to traditional 401k? Currently facing a marginal tax rate of 36.75% including state taxes. Feels like traditional is the better bet now.

Anyone ever used an employment offer from a client you’re currently on to renegotiate salary or not worth the effort?
Was brought onto a project for a very specific expertise that I have. But the other senior team members literally question everything I tell them (and not in an intellectual way)... continued
That time the client calls you out for a report being wrong when in reality they just mis-read it. 😒
Ladies, what are your strategies to make sure your contributions are recognized day to day when you are on a project with mostly male leadership? It can be hard to contribute in meetings when I’m the only woman on the call

Any tech savvy people out there? I bought a second monitor earlier this year which connects to my laptop via the HDMI port. I was at my parents and they dug up an old monitor that doesn’t have an HDMI port, but it seems to have DVI and D-sub ports. Amazon has DVI/D-sub to HDMI adapters, but my issue is that my computer only has 1 HDMI input. What device do I need so I can use both monitors at the same time? I’m seeing HDMI splitters, but some sources say only one screen will work at a time

What questions are you guys asking amazon recruiters for 1:1 session? I plan to ask questions about resume verbiage/structure, how to prep stories, and how to tackle interview given I have already gone through the loop.
Did any of you take quizzes to get an idea of your mental health state? Just took a few, that were very similar I must say, and these were my results.
For those that have jumped from one big 4 to another, did your old firm ask you to leave immediately or did you do the typical 2 weeks? Hearing mixed reviews, so this may be an "it depends" answer🤦🏻
