Cleared a 2-month interview process where fixed CTC X was agreed on Day 1. In the final round, HR backtracked with a much lower CTC Y (including variable), claiming they "assumed I'd be flexible." The gap is huge.

It feels like a complete bait-and-switch and a massive waste of my time and effort. Incredibly disappointed by this lack of transparency. Has anyone faced this? Should I try to negotiate back to the original number, escalate it, or just walk away? Advice appreciated.

If you interview for a job but are not offered the position, is it weird to try to connect with some of your interviewers on LinkedIn? I genuinely liked some of my interviewers, but apparently the company identified a candidate whom it believes is a better fit.
