After reading your comments, clearly your boss has issues with female workers and it can impact the career trajectory of the women reporting to him. You need to figure out how to work around this (or make it work to your advantage) if you want to stay or if the time has come to move on. A bad culture will not change overnight and in many companies it is so deeply rooted that leaving is the only way to avoid it.
Uh, no. I do not experience this. I speak up a lot.
Your boss is a misogynist. What a sexist comment.
There very well could be room to be more diplomatic in how you approach things, but I have no way of knowing that from your post. For me, I try to be direct while also explicitly giving people the benefit of the doubt. For example, if something is sent to my team for validation and it’s riddled with errors, when I reach out to the development team, I might ask how we can set better expectations on the quality of work we receive, instead of just saying something is wrong. But that’s different than what you seem to be talking about.
It is unprofessional and you have every right to be suspicious that he is biased.
I still work with some people who seem unaware of their biases. In some cases I ignore them. Given this is your boss, be diligent about documenting not only the stupid behaviors and things he says, but your own work performance. If there comes a time you are slighted for promotion or raise, you’ll be prepared to raise the bias concern
Is he a dinosaur? Who even talks like that anymore.
I’m sure he’s a nice man and doesn’t realize how he makes women feel. Hopefully you can develop a great relationship with him and coach him through this in a way he responds well to
So gross. Maybe we have the same boss - does he also call all the women on the team "gals", take only the guys out to lunch, and only 1/2 listens whenever you do talk?
