Does anyone have any strategies that seem to be very effective for improving employee engagement in either hybrid, remote or full time office working environments?

We do monthly watercoolers for those employees that want to be more engaged despite our fully remote workplace. It's great for those employees that want it and entirely optional for those that don't.

That’s a good idea, I like that!

I think that all depends on what the purpose of the engagement is. If the workforce is distributed there may not be much need for cohesion, so just having people in a Slack channel may be fine. If people are working in close proximity and teamwork matters, then some business oriented socializing might be useful. But, again, it all depends on what's trying to be achieved.

Yes that is a very good point also.

We love hearing what the employees think, so try setting a survey to ask them questions about what they want and think, then act on it. You can also try pairing up colleagues randomly each week for a 15-minute check-in and encourage them to swap one win and one challenge. These two strategies work really well.

I like that, gives everyone a chance to share some honest feedback through surveys rather than an intimate 1-1 conversation between management and the employee.

Controversial question - what are some roles/functions to avoid at Google for ex-management consultants, in terms of potential under-utilization of skills and limited career progression? Common exit opps tend to be in StratOps, PMM, PgM/Solutions Consultant, roles in Sales; would anyone not recommend any of these roles?

Any insight into the Product Development Specialist role at Facebook? My goal is product management and I am currently a strategy consultant with 3 YOE (not technical), but this seems like a possible path toward that goal. The initial total comp brought up was only $110K (base, bonus, stock), which is barely more than I am making now, though they said there was room to negotiate on the stock portion.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?
