You would be lucky to get 170k unless you have a niche skillset
Use your resume and experience to pivot out to something that offers a similar-ish base, likely somewhat lower, but also offers you a 4yr RSU deal.
Coach
I went to Workday out of consulting after 5 years. Made 145 base + 20% bonus (always funded) + 25K RSU per year. Close to 200 TC
170 base at 5 YOE is honestly high
I don't think we're entitled to anything but I agree with the sentiment.
It's wild to think that I've spent ~9 years working 60 hour weeks. Even if you assume a typical corporate employee is equally as productive hour for hour, that means I've worked 13+ "corporate" years. In reality, it's probably closer to 15 years since we take less PTO and rarely have quiet weeks.
Companies pay based upon the cost to acquire labor. Over the last 10 years the supply of consultants has gone up faster than the demand. Add to that low cost consulting, including non-tech, H1-B etc and there as a glut of supply that will depress wages.
Supply and demand my friend. Econ 101 is the most important class you will ever take. If you took the 8am class you did yourself a disservice by sleeping through half of it.
I make more than that but I also have more than 5 years experience.
