For the introverts out there, do you ever feel like being quiet at work gets misunderstood as not being passionate or engaged? Sometimes I worry that not speaking up as much in meetings or being more reserved in group settings makes it seem like I care less, even though that’s far from the truth. Curious if anyone else has felt this way or found ways to deal with it.

Yeah I'm introverted too and I feel like I'm constantly trying to prove that being quieter doesn’t mean I’m not passionate, but it’s tough when people misinterpret that. I’ve had to remind myself that actions speak louder, showing up, doing the work, and contributing when needed can prove my engagement without being the loudest in the room.

Totally get that! It's frustrating when quiet gets mistaken for disinterest. I found that over time steady contributions and being dependable go a long way in shifting those perceptions.

Yep
At my old office, I was in a very large dept and it was very hard to stand out and be noticed for a promotion as an introvert. The social butterflies who floated around the office talking to everyone did tend to get ahead, as did the loudmouths.
I moved to another company and am on a much smaller team now where I’m able to have more of an impact, introvert or not.

Totally get that. It’s frustrating when visibility feels tied to volume. Sounds like the move was a great call. Being in an environment that values real contributions over just being loud is such a game-changer.

I've always been mostly an introvert, but I just force myself to break out of it at times. It's just one of those things you need to do to have any chance of success in business. You needn't be the life of the party, exactly, but just being personable and speaking up now and then is all that's required. The problem with being too reserved is that people tend to project negative qualities onto that, that you're aloof or a snob or whatever. That's obviously something to avoid, so it pays to just push yourself out of your comfort zone a little.

That’s a really practical way to look at it. It’s true, just showing a bit of openness can really change how others perceive you, even if you’re naturally more reserved. I’ve tried pushing myself in that way before, but sometimes it feels like I’m putting on a mask at work rather than being my authentic self.

Does anyone know of similar opportunities? All input is appreciated!
