I did, but was lucky in that my firm allowed me to work remotely. Also, I was previously in Georgia; and with its growing restrictions on women’s health care and a 5-year-old daughter who might one day be impacted by those restrictions, I was happy to move to California. I miss my Georgia friends, for sure, but don’t regret the move. And in exchange for the higher taxes, here we get free after-school and summer care for my twins, which saves me way more money than the additional taxes cost me, plus free breakfast and lunch in school and I don’t have to pay for a private school because their public school here is excellent. Since we live in the Central Valley, our cost of living is about the same as where we lived in Georgia.
As a fellow Georgian, I am so happy to see women get to move somewhere that their bodily autonomy is still respected and protected.

I would only move for a significant other if they’re “the one” (whatever that means to you) and you are both on the same page about building a life together.
Agreed. Or alternatively, if you genuinely are interested in living in the new city regardless of your relationship. But sounds like that doesn’t describe OP.
No. My friends who’ve done this really struggled and eventually they moved to a new place where both of them wanted to be. It’s good your sister is there and you’ll have some semblance of a network. Really take some time and think about what it looks for you if things don’t work out with your partner. Would you be resentful or grateful for the experience?
I did and now we’re happily married. I did have a couple friends in the area and I liked that city, but I also really liked him and wanted to see where it could go. No regrets.
I maintained enough of my own life when I followed him to the new city and that was pretty important for me I think. I think it was also important to me that up to that point, he’d been the one making the first move and was very clear about how he felt about me, so I was confident that he was invested in the relationship.
And yes there was a distinct time I resented the move and we ended up long distance, but it all ultimately worked out.
