In your opinion, is being a tax partner compatible with having a family? What sacrifices would you have to make versus a more flexible position say in industry or government?
Is it possible to go into industry and ultimately achieve the same level of income as a big 4 tax partner? At what level would you leave? And what role can you get into for tax?
🐠 need your take on this: I found a perfect role at a company that I previously interned at 3.5 years ago. However my manager and lead analyst at the time really hated me, and I didn’t get a FT offer. The role im looking at now is for a different department but at the same HQ campus as my previous team. I’m currently at a key competitor, and confident I could land an interview. How would you try to successfully get the role? Impossible? Burnt bridge?
Anyone have experience hiring a career coach? Looking to hire one for spouse who has a background in science & looking to making a career move but not sure how to start. Unsure how useful it’ll be?
I am thinking about exiting McK and wondering if there are any recruiters that specialize in helping consultants find exit ops. For context, I am an Associate (post MBA) and interested in tech
I have an engineering degree/technical background but due to some reorg changes I’ve been aligned with marketing. Is this something that’s inconsistent with my skill set? Or is the role of marketing..
People, Have an interview with a FAANG firm for their revenue and sales operations role. Has anyone of you been through similar rounds. What can I expect ? Any sample cases/questions to share.
Requesting guidance: I’m managing a team as step up role & I have noticed a decline in the production / output of a DR. I expect this is due to burden in navigating work with childcare w/ virus cont.
I'm realizing that my role on this team is identifying simple problems and making a big show of pointing them out.
Has any 🐟 been offered a position by their client and accepted? How easy/hard was it to leave the firm?
How to ask for a better title? I’m almost a year into a role at a medium-sized agency and head of both creative and strategy departments. I manage about 20 people. (Cont’d in comments)
Flying with my parents for the first time since I was a college sophomore ten years ago - talk about role reversal...
I’m in a really good position at my firm - leading sales, huge internal initiatives, have greats sponsorship to make Managing Director in the next few years and have a good upward career in the structure. While I have thus far been very successful with sales, the “way the sausage is made” around selling, over promising, solutions that don’t align with my personal world view (ie unneeded mass labor reductions) are starting to chafe. Can you ever ask for a small relocation fund when relocating a 1000 miles to a new market for a freelance to full-time role? I'm guessing no.
(V10 Mid-level Lit Associate, LA/DC) Need to lateral to Boston for personal/family reasons. Are any of the major firms in Boston hiring litigation associates? Boston seems very corp-heavy.
Meeting with my Director today for a 1:1. I just started a new role in industry this week. What are some questions I should ask or bring up? I want to ask “smart” questions but also keep it pretty informal.
Thoughts on big4 senior>law firm (in accounting role). Someone is trying to tell me I should stay away from legal industry as an accountant as the skills aren’t transferable. Is this true?
I just was assigned as a PM for a large banking client and I have no motivation to play the role. I have never drove a large initiative and I don’t bs. Should I ask to be removed?
If I ask to be taken off a project and returned to the bench so I can look for something else, how will that be received? Will they just fire me instead or do I get a window to find a new project?
When you can't figure out whether there's genuine attraction/flirtation with a coworker or just bonding over busy season trauma, then realize even if it's the former you'd be fired for acting on it 👌
Indian from a small town. I live with my wife in US (both H1b) but parents are in India. They have visitor Visa and have age of around 55 each. What have worked for you guys to keep them close?
Do I need to have a strategy portfolio when I am applying to jobs? Most applications have an optional box to put a link, but I’d rather bring examples of my work to the interview
For incoming consultants/associates straight from undergrad, what kind of learning process did you go through starting your first project and when did you start feeling things “clicked”?? (Cont)
What kind of job titles should I be looking for in my job search if I want to get out of consulting?
Financially speaking, worth pushing for promotion this year? I'm most interested in getting a big raise and bonus, not the title. Does a promotion come with a bigger raise?
At what point do we publicly announce a minimum day rate under which no freelancer will go? The news this week about what C-level titles are paid is sickening. This is feudalism. Surfs unite!
Anyone use the Lo&Sons Rowledge backpack as a diaper bag? ImLooking to purchase a new work backpack that can also transition to a stylish diaper bag once baby arrives. Thoughts?
Made my first big, client-facing mistake today. Almost made it a year without one, but alas. Embarrassed and nervous about fallout, especially in the time of layoffs. Say a little prayer for me.
Received an offer to exit to a boutique firm at 30%. Turned in my notice and leadership reached out, stating that they will counter. Salary and WLB are reasons for leaving but being a smaller firm, there’s some risk that I career growth might not be as easy. If they counter and I accept, I’ll be pretty high on the pay hand for my level. I’m scared that it will put a target in my back. All said, I do enjoy the perks but I’m getting burnt out. Thoughts and any advice appreciated
Might have figured out why I’m getting more acne since quarantine: I have oily skin and before at the office I would blot throughout the day but now I am only washing my face morning and night, no blotting. It’s likely the oil production that accumulates and clog pores 🤒
