Hello everyone. I am from central New Jersey and just updated my DOT medical certificate for commercial driving, and also have acquired my commercial learners permit today. Does anyone have any leads as to any companies that hire CLP drivers and train from there? I have been in the construction trades for over 15+ years. I spoke to one company that offered CDL training but they wanted to start me far too low, like $17 an hour which is ridiculous for a CDL driver. Been trying to get in with Earle

First off, you should go back, study and take the hazmat, doubles and triples and tanker endorsements and get those on your CLP.

Then, just pay the $3000-$5000 and get your CDL yourself.

Going the on the job route will severely limit the companies you can apply to, and likely you'd land somewhere that has predatory practices.

With a CDL in hand with every endorsement you can automatically demand a higher starting pay regardless of where you end up.

(Specialty hauling is where the money is at)

The ELDT is literally a cute course you can pay for online and the provider prints out the certificate for you to take to the dmv. I found the cheapest provider that I could find. Paid 25 bucks and got my endorsement. Don’t let that hold you back.
