If they are a definite hire, I let them know prior to give them next steps to prepare for onboarding when I return. If they are still under consideration, I let them know that I will be OON until whatever date and they should expect to hear back by [insert date].
Usually, yes. But before interviewing, I spend quite a bit of time researching and reviewing candidates/resumes, etc. So, in our company, if you've been selected for an interview, as long as the candidate matches or exceeds what's on paper, it's pretty much a done deal (aside from negotiations).
If the process has gone through everything I'll let them know before. I know how it is on the other side and I don't think it's fair to keep people waiting.
