We have report card assemblies for the students. We have different incentives for attendance.
A kind, supportive, accessible leader is paramount to a good beginning. Our last one had us shutting doors, pulling shades and keeping mouths closed. There was no joy, happiness or laughter in classrooms, staff rooms or hallways. What a difference a good leader makes! The shades are up, the doors are open and welcoming to one and all. Laughter, joy and happiness are with us in abundance. The PTO is much more supported. We have pajama days, food drives, clothing drives, musical assemblies, older students coming to support younger students, older student dances, younger student Halloween parties, teacher holiday parties are back. We still have the usual typical daily stressors, but we are now much more supportive of one another which lessens the stress. I no longer use a four letter word when I wake up every Monday-Friday:)
Agreed. Supportive leadership is such an important motivator.
Host regular school wide events, such as pep rallies, talent shows, spirit days, community service projects, whatever. These events bring together students, teachers, and staff, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.
