I’ve been running into weird happenings at my new firm learn of everything “I misunderstood” about my package. I don’t actually qualify for quarterly bonuses at a pro-rated billing rate; no 401ks till year 2; and the biggest—we don’t qualify for a raise unless we are here during the entire fiscal year. We have a 2100 billable req which I’m barely hitting. We also get paid below 6 figures. I learned that the new associates came is at least $10k over us. I graduated 2020–but 1st firm job. Advice?

I recently accepted an offer and have onboarding coming up. Any idea how busy I’ll be in the evenings for those couple of days? The calendar invite only goes until 4pm but I wasn’t sure if there’s any additional events that go on. Outside counsel has been prepping company witnesses for a trial in August. It is my subject area so I am supervising outside counsel. I did not, however, choose the counsel. He is doing a really awful job. Co counsel is better, but not great either. Higher ups love the firm… I do not want to micromanage, but I have genuine concerns about outside counsel’s ability to try this case. Trials are rare, and I just don’t think these guys have actually tried many cases. Cont. below…

After you moved in-house, how did you get more comfortable reviewing contracts or counseling on issues you weren’t super familiar with? I was very specialized at my law firm and took a similarly specialized role in-house….but I still get requests to mark-up types of agreements that I never touched at my firm. I’ve been trying to find CLEs to get up to speed, but I’m wondering if this is generally something that gets more comfortable with time…

If I got a manager for employment claims’ position is it hard to pivot to an associate counsel role etc? What do you think the main difference between the two are? Is it a good position for a stepping stone to in house counsel?

Had a baby recently with some health issues which has prompted me to reevaluate my big firm associate life and consider in house. The issue is, I’m thinking of leaving right after/during maternity leave and feel very guilty. Do you think I should explain myself or just say I found another opportunity? I don’t want to burn bridges but also don’t think they are entitled to know everything about me.

I’m a senior associate and received an offer to join a very profitable client as general counsel that would open lots of doors professionally and financially. This litigation won’t wipe us out… something’s I just become very pessimistic about the future of the company.

Database for M&A precedents? Trying to look for a share purchase agreement from a 2021 acquisition. Didn’t find it on EDGAR. Is there anyway to make sure the document is not publicly available? How can I get access to this agreement?

What kind of companies pay more than $200k base and what practice areas? Remote or Texas. I’m a new attorney between M&A and L&E, but I’m willing to switch practice areas for the best exit options in the future (4-5 yoe).

I'm a brand new attorney (passed the Feb 2021 bar) who started an in-house counsel position a few months ago (where my focus is negotiating agreements for the sale of my company's software). I was a contracts manager on an in-house team for 4 years prior, which is why I was able to go straight in-house. I'm entirely skipping out on firm life, which feels both good and bad. Is there anything I should think about getting experience in? How should I go about making sure I am seeing enough things?

If you only had about $500 for a standing desk or a ergonomic chair, which would you choose? Any particular recs would be helpful! (Currently have a wooden chair and desk and want to make an upgrade this year!)
