That's always a challenge. If you've got people who are energetic about covering shifts, that's great. It's good to check in with them at times and make sure they're really happy about what they're doing. Some people will do it out of a sense of obligation and you do run the risk of burning them out and having them pack it in.

Unfortunately you just have to keep churning because that's all we have the power to do. Eventually you'll get some people that absolutely love the extra work and hours.

That’s a tough balance. The reliable people are usually the first ones asked because you know they’ll step up. What helped in places I’ve seen work well was rotating who gets asked and protecting certain people’s days off so the same few don’t always carry the load.

That’s a tough spot. Rotating coverage as fairly as possible and openly acknowledging the extra effort helps, but honestly, setting limits is key too. Even your most reliable team can burn out if it never evens out.

It’s tricky. I try to rotate shifts fairly and give extra support or small perks when people cover more than usual. Open communication helps too—letting the team know you see their effort can make a difference.
