How do you handle when people talk about politics at work + assume what your beliefs are... but you actually don't agree with them without making it awkward?

Keep in mind it's a creative director commenting and you want to stay in good standing..

I give the most middle of the road, inoffensive responses when this sort of thing happens. "Yeah I hate all politicians, can't trust any of them" type of thing. I'll let them ramble on and take the first opportunity to steer the conversation in a different direction.

I talk about the hollow earth and that usually shuts them up

Have had this happen! People assume and either way it’s just an awkward conversation. I just don’t really say anything or make a broad comment that doesn’t have much weight. Anything policial brought up seems to be a lose lose situation. People with identical beliefs end up fighting because they are so emotionally charged about it.

I happen to know a lot about history, so I usually try to steer conversations into something that happened in the 19th century. If I make references to the Nullification Crisis or the Abolitionist Pamphlet Campaign that usually is such a major buzzkill that it defuses anything. And you have to remember that most of the people talking about politics don't know anything, they're just repeating disinformation they picked up on social media or from some knucklehead podcast.

Honestly, it completely depends how n my mood and how awful the people are being when discussing their beliefs. If everyone is calm and respectful, then so am I . But since I stay up to date on politics and current events I can easily destroy most arguments if pushed there

I’m new on the job search and still employed. I’m looking to grow further in the logistics industry. While I look for work, it’s a bit discouraging seeing how hundreds of people apply for positions I see on LinkedIn. I still apply because you never know and AI plays a huge effect in selections. Should I even bother applying when there are more than 100 applications?
