How long does it typically take to ramp an associate up to a full case load after joining the firm?

I think it depends on level of experience. A baby lawyer associate probably at least a full year, where as a more experienced associate, just a few months.

I think 1-2 months before they are working up cases, a year before they feel competent

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

Struggling to get work at a free market firm after lateraling. I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. For those at free market firms, how frequently do you have to ask for work? How do you typically ask? Just send partners emails asking if they have any deals for you? Thanks y’all.

Has your firm gone paperless? I'm trying to find rules for the retention of files in Maryland. Also trying to pick your brains about how your firm went paperless (or mostly paperless). I was to try to convince the owner of the Firm this is the best way for us to save space and money.
