I actually enjoy working through the holiday season. Our store allows us to be festive while we’re at work.
How does your workplace make it worth working through the holidays?

I love working through the holidays as well. My stores is less crowded and also festive. They encourage us to dress up while still working and helping others. We also get bonuses and holidays gifts from our managers.

That sounds fun! I like when workplaces let you get into the festive spirit too, it makes the holiday grind way more enjoyable.

We're allowed to do the same kind of thing. Our dress code relaxes a little and we're allowed to wear festive stuff, like those silly light up headbands with Rudolph or Christmas trees on them. And the music is all holiday pretty much from November 1st on. It doesn't make up for the insanity of the holiday season, but it's still a bit of a morale boost.

My workspace is boring and has no holiday spirit at all. They are always like, “our department loses money. We give people money." But that is not our fault. Anyway, I have made my peace with it now.

I’m working in a large fund; market neutral public market strategy funds; am about to be recommended for a promotion to associate. However, an analyst position just opened up internally in Credit, which is where I aspire to be for the next ten years. More growth and more intellectual challenge. I’m conflicted about applying for a lateral transfer and losing out on a promotion. Will I be missing out a promotion or should I negotiate a promotion as part of my application to this role ?
