It’s not not consistent with drug use but burnt popcorn smell can also just be burnt popcorn. I guess I’m not understanding because going to HR about a smell in the office that is giving you headaches to the point you have to wear a mask at work doesn’t require that you say you think your coworker is on drugs. Surely you aren’t the only person who can smell the smell or see the jerky movements but his performance and compliance with policies aren’t really your problem if he’s just a coworker and not your employee. Go to HR with your issue. You don’t need to accuse him of doing drugs to raise a concern about your health in the workplace.
What I’m saying is bring up what’s impacting you, ie this coworker has a smell that is causing you headaches, and that’s all you need to bring up. Your suspicion that he’s using drugs isn’t what’s impacting you.
I am so sorry to hear that. Believe me, I have been there. I snapped at my coworker one day, which was totally out of character for me. That is when I knew that I had to start looking for something else. That job was taking a toll on my mental health.
