57. First job in agency was at 35. Current job I scored big the month after my 50th birthday and had spent a long year of being laid off at 49. I had feared that was going to be a depressing end but it wasn’t. Power on all.
63 and still doing it after 41 years. I win! Or something.
You absolutely win!! Congrats!
As someone who was late to home buying, late to having kids, and has no family money this thread makes me feel good 👍
Ditto.
Here’s to the people still hustling in this game based on experience rather than youth!
58 and still in the biz! (But I’ve never been very bright...)
First agency job at 40 (related background experience prior) laid off at 49, bounced back at 50. I'm 59 now and still in the game...
I’ll be 56 this year. 32 years in. Insane. Hope to be able to retire in 10
Just turned 51, still in the business AND working on other fun stuff like shooting surf photography (and paid commercial work), some entrepreneurial side projects and (not so fun) real estate.
58. 30 years. Way back when I vowed to be out by 40. When I hit my late 40s that’s when I started really appreciating my career. After a string of so so gigs I just got a great one. Can’t believe I’m still here. Still, I hope I’m out by ... 70? Lol. Of course when you’re freelance it’s like you’re always semi-retired
Turning 40 in a few weeks. Was just emailing a student last week who I was assigned to mentor through my portfolio school and as I wrote my background, I realized I’ve been working in the industry for 18 years. It shocked me to put that in writing.
57 and still working in the industry but now freelance and on my terms. Now Repping and producing for production companies and creative post production teams. Set a goal to be freelance at 55 and did it!
35 years straight at agencies full-time. Headed to freelance soon. Tired
50 and 28 years in industry. The litmus test: Still look okay in leather pants.
That’s a solid haul especially in this biz! You should be proud
Amen!
It scares me how there’s a big push for “young and edgy”. More so than in the past. Just as I started to make money in this biz, the market crashed. I can’t afford to retire until I’m 80! Ha
Market crashed on me JUST as I was hauling in a second wave of awards (including OneShow, Cannes, etc.). But I did end up at a (lower-paying) cool CD gig at a small shop in the mid-west, working on the funnest hockey team account, ever.
But I was never able to capitalize from that second round of awards, financially.
RIP Dayton Bombers!
It's important to stay fit and never get a dad bod. You'll keep working way after 50 if you don't look 50.
Or mom bod. Working my bum off here and I don’t have kids!
45 and 23 years in
Just turned 42. Took first client side job almost three years ago. So much opportunity for design to impact positive change and drive business value.
54. Moving from Exec Producer to Managing Director role. Experience matters!
27 here. Still love it
I think they meant 27 years in the biz...
