I just realised my take home pay is less in 2025 as a Consultant than it was in 2020 as an Analyst, inflation adjusted.

Ignoring deductions, my 2020 Analyst salary + bonus was £40k, or £32k post tax. According to a hl.co.uk cumulative inflation calculator, £32k in 2020 is £44k in 2025 money.

This year, my Consultant salary + bonus was £54,500, or £42k post tax.

So — factoring inflation, salary freezes, and freezes to income tax bands — from A to C, I’m £2k worse off in real terms. Isn’t that crazy!
