I keep seeing stories that a government shutdown will come with layoffs. This isn't surprising; people get temporarily laid off each time the government shuts down. What's bothering me is that these reports say there will be mass layoffs and these layoffs will be permanent. Why? At some point, the government will reopen, won't people still need to fill these roles? What am I missing?

The Trump Administration’s number one priority is to disable or disband all government agencies and departments that might one day be used to protect the American people against people like them. The more damage they do, the happier they are.

This is what the current administration is threatening, but they are already eating crow with the crap they pulled earlier this year. The layoffs will be temporary until a budget is set.

As someone who is the victim of these mass layoffs, that is 100% true. We are seeing major layoffs at NASA with no options for staying or being rehired.

Hmmm I hadn't heard that but you are right, that is very interesting. I am sure it is a way for the government to save money in some way. Mass layoffs are happening everywhere it seems.

It feels like they are just finding any excuse they can to lay people off. And I have this sneaking suspicion that when they hire back, it's going to be for less money and they are going to try to cut corners and replace humans with AI.

Mass layoffs are taking a toll on everyone's mental health. Even if they hire them back, they might cut back the budget and salaries.

Just got off the phone with a recruiter who asked me what year I graduated from my MBA program and college and effectively told me I was too old for the role. I do have the 1 year of experience they asked for in the job in question. It's just that I have all this other experience in things unrelated to the role or things I want to deemphasize in my next role. Is there anything I can do? I only list the last 8 years of experience (as it's most relevant) and don't have my graduation years listed.
