Why do job applications for art directors have way more requirements than copywriters these days? I’m sick of being expected to not only art direct and design, but to be the illustrator, animator, editor, 3D artist, UX/UI designer, etc. all while my copywriter friends snag interviews and gigs left and right with ease bc hiring managers just expect them to do the 1 job they’re supposed to do! I need a job and I’m so so so tired of it!
How long can I ask to wait on an offer? I’m still only on the 1st round interview for another company 😬
How can a candidate tell they're being jerked around by a recruiter/HR after a final interview? Is it ever appropriate to say you don't appreciate them not getting back to you after they said they would, for ignoring your emails, giving vague (or zero!) feedback, etc? I'm tired of being ignored, ghosted, etc by these recruiters especially as someone who's just entering the industry. It's rude and unfair especially since each role has 3-6 interviews & I'm seeking genuine feedback. Advice?
Adventures in Interviewing: Today we were wrapping up a pretty good interview with a strong potential candidate. When asked if they had any last questions, they said that they had an issue with our Work from Home policy (we’re 100% WFH right now, and will not consider a re-opening strategy until everyone is vaccinated). The candidate declared that they did not believe in vaccines, so we needed to allow her to be a permanent remote hire. I guess I’m glad about the dodged bullet, so there’s that.
Why has ghosting become so accepted in our industry? It’s one thing to have never made the connection, but ghosting an applicant after 2 or 3 rounds of interviews... Speaks volumes of the company and we need to do better.
Anyone ever get strung along on interviews for a month to either: A. Get the position B. Get turned down C. Get Ghosted
How to know if an entry-level job is the right fit for you? Or even advertising? In a final interview rounds for me, it feels like the upper-level folks are just asking me questions because they have to be there. I get nervous & shake very easily. People misinterpret what I say & I don't have time to correct myself. I've only gotten feedback like, "They loved your enthusiasm/drive but went with someone with more experience." I don't know if it's me or if they've all just been bad fits.
If you’re interviewing at places and then receive a promotion at your current job (that you don’t like), is it bad to leave right after being promoted?
How does one go about applying to be an advertising instructor at an art school — for example, Art Center in Pasadena?
Have you ever been burned so hard by a network that it would put you off applying to any of their subsidiaries ever again? Pray tell.
So I was interviewed for a job opportunity. Let’s say they give me an offer and didn’t like it - How do I reject it without burning that bridge?
If you get an offer a few days before you have a final interview (or while you're waiting to hear back), is it okay to ask for some time? Or do they expect you to answer right there? i'm in the final round for 2 different media positions in 2 completely different places (NYC and NC) and things are moving really quickly for both. the NYC job is my dream one but they're both offering $40k so i'm conflicted. any advice would be helpful lol
WAIT...you’re saying this entire thing was just a Whole Foods activation?! Can’t wait to see the impression stats in the case study 😆
You know when you you get through 9 interviews and the recruiter says “it didn’t work out but we will keep your contact info for a future role.” Has anyone ever gotten a job a year or so later from that same recruiter or agency? Or do they actually just throw your resume and interview experience in an endless void of non hires.
FIRST-TIME FREELANCE RATE! What should my rate be? Have an interview today & need to say my price. All I know is: “digital marketing/advertising/ google and FB ads” and “it’s a small project.” I have 3 years of experience, graduated college in 2017. What do I charge?
I’ve had two interview processes get to the final round that requires a project and presentation to a panel. Both times I haven’t gotten an offer— does this mean I’m bad at my job?
When someone reaches out from another agency and says “they’ve heard amazing things about you”, how do you ask who it was that mentioned your name? I’m very comfortable in interview settings but for some reason I feel awkward/accusatory when asking
Thoughts on how to approach the exit interview when leaving a job? Part of me wants to go in on all the issues with the job, company, clients, etc., but the other part of me wonders what it would actually accomplish.
What would you choose: being a big fish in a small pond or vice versa? Have an interview with my dream (independent) agency next week, for a lateral move on a new account. My current holding company agency isn’t quite as top-tier as the potential new gig, but I’m valued/recognized by leadership, have been promoted twice in less than 4 years, and overall know I’ve got it very good here. Definitely champagne problems lol, but would love some perspective!
Final interview with the ECD I’ll be working under if all goes well (fingers crossed) and I’m super pumped! What are some questions I should be asking/be ready to answer? This is for pharma btw. Thanks!
I'm really focused on my career and on advancement, and have been interviewing at other companies for better opportunities. My fiancée wants me to stay at my current company because of the WL balance since it's a pretty lax job and allows me to spend time with my kid, but I want more out of my job. I just feel so stagnant. Should I just wait it out?
How many places did you have to interview before you landed your current job? And/or how long were you actively looking?
Final interview was last Monday, hiring managers on the call said I’d hear from them by Friday. That has passed- when do I reach out to check in?
Do you take interviews even if you’re not super interested in the agency, just to see/create connections? Or is it better to not take the interview, save everyone’s time?
Interview Question: Understanding how many layers we usually have for interviews, how do you flex yourself when you are pitching the professionals to get the position? Do you usually repeat the same history told on the previously round or try to present “new assets”?
Multiple job offers?! Negotiating salary?! HELP!! I’m expecting 3 offers within the next week: one verbal offer that is working on approval for more money, One where the recruiter is worried over the prospect of a bidding war (allegedly can make their recruiting firm look bad) and another that has expedited the interview process since they know I have the other two. I like all 3 opportunities (one is a slight favorite) but what is the smartest way to approach salary negotiation?
Realistically, how honest should I be in an exit interview? I know in theory I should be 100% honest in order to stay true to myself, help the place I’m leaving improve, etc...but the reality is there are relationships, politics and reputations on the line. I want to be honest but also want to leave on a good note/ not piss anyone off. I’m torn about what level of honest to be. (And yes, I know I could be honest while also being respectful, but even if I do that, I know people will be offended.)
For those looking for new roles, how many applications do you submit and what’s your interview rate?

@mck - just finished final round with partners Friday. Got minor hints on 2 cases on the math problems which I took and moved the case forward. Do these interviews need to be perfect for an offer?!

Advice - I have a job interview tomorrow for a job I’ve already decided I don’t want . Do I cancel it or go ?
Do you travel 🐟 only do onsite interviews on Fridays for the most part? If yes, do you ever worry you'll miss out on an opportunity because you couldn't interview early enough?
During a interview when asked “why are you looking for new opportunities?", is it bad to answer with “I’m looking for a higher salary” because that’s literally the only reason why I’m looking
How long did your job search take? From end-to-end? Day you started looking and applying to day you received the offer.

Interviewed with a panel and the hiring manager encouraged me to email her. Any tips on what to include in the follow up email. I really want this role but I feel like I messed up on one of the technical sessions that she wasn’t involved in.
What should I do if I’m in interview process with 2 separate recruiters for 2 diff roles at the same firm? Is it my job to notify them both as to not piss one off? Can’t they see I’m going for both?
What is with phone interviewers that went straight to ask if you have any questions? Usually they would lead the interview, but this one seems like a huge introvert?
I want to work on my interview jitters and practice presenting my book/answering standard q’s; might someone be willing to practice with me? I’m a (jobless) jr-level CW trying to polish up during this weird time.

When do you suppose advertising will be fun again? Our friends in strategy say people are getting tired of the “COVID commercials”.
How do you deal with parents making mysogynistic remarks towards you? They do come from a much more traditional/patriarchal culture, whereas I (25) moved to the US when I was younger. I recently went on vacation with my folks after having not met them a while. My mother unironically said that my dress made me look like a “prostitute” (a black off the shoulder maxi dress, no cleavage). I told her the comment hurts me, but she said “I didn’t mean to hurt you dear, I’m just stating facts.”
My spouse has an offer from Amazon. Their base is capped low so they pay most of the total comp as sign on bonus. How do the tax and withholding works for the bonus part?

Do you have many LGBT friends and do you necessarily care if you do or don’t? I have one gay friend who I catch up with occasionally and I think my husband has two. I never really cared either way about it, however I feel like I’m at that point where you primarily make new friends through existing ones, and they are having children and making other “parent” friends. Between that and living in a SFH neighborhood in the suburbs, I’ve changed my viewpoint over the last few months.
Question for my Biglaw folks: I’m designing a program that will help Biglaw associates organize their money so they can ditch their Biglaw jobs to pursue their true passions, no matter the salary...if you could waive a magic wand and fix/change/create something about your financial situation that would make you feel comfortable leaving your Biglaw salary, what would it be?
Have a friend starting at booz who ended up not having their clearance go through but is not getting paid salary so they have to work part time jobs now...that's not right...right?
