I was denied a raise at work because I don't take on enough extra hours. I had my annual review and we usually get a small raise during these. But apparently, I don't stay late or come in on my day off enough when asked. I do probably take on an extra shift once or twice a month, but I can't often stay late. I have kids, so my schedule isn't that flexible. What should I do?

The company can frame it as lack of open availability as the reason, I’m sure. Not taking extra hours, I don’t think, should be a reason, since it’s in addition to your regular schedule. You are not obligated to work more than your schedule. Not being able to work certain hours or days outright is different than not being open to working outside of your scheduled hours.

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
