I was working at a local 7-11 in Fort Collins,CO. When I got my final check that I had worked 43 hours, my check was for only half of what I earned. I contacted the labor board and was in informed today that my manager claimed I took over $240 in pay advances and that’s why my check was so low. I NEVER took any type of advance from them and am now going to file a small claims lawsuit against them. Has anyone else had a cash advance from 7-11? Any info appreciated.

That sounds bizarre. I was thinking they've got you confused with someone else. But it's probably not likely they're giving cash advances to people anyway. And if they did, they'd remember who they gave it to, plus, there would be some kind of paperwork on it. Sue them into the next county!

I’d definitely go to small claims and have them for that!! You deserve all your money for what your owed specially if you disnt have an advance!

Wow. I hope that was an honest mistake on their part, but it's a bad sign that they didn't immediately try to fix it. Good on you for going to small claims. I'm so tired of employers getting away with doing things like this. It's a shame the labor board wasn't more helpful.

I am so sorry to hear that. They should have to prove that you took the advance otherwise you would be owed that money. I would make sure that the labor board knows you didn't take any sort of advance and they need to investigate that.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

Any experience working @ Chad Jones law?
I’m currently discontent with my income.
(3rd year. Salary=80k and no performance incentive. I brought in $1.4mm AFTER partners claimed over half of fees on my big cases.)
I see CJL offers an incentive+ base but I’m curious about that structure.
Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?
