You can live essentially anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or even Jersey if 30 min commute to FiDi is your only requirement
You can live in jersey city and take a 7 minute ferry ride into manhattan - you’re commute will literally be 20 minutes
Literally 5 min walk, maybe a block? Don’t think it’s even that far.
Pro
Jersey City and take the ferry. That's what I did when I worked at Brookfield Place. Was 15 minutes door to desk
You’ll be in the Amex building!! It’s such a nice area I worked in that building, my fav location by far 😍😍😍
Used to be much nicer when there were restaurants inside, now they got rid of all that
116 John Street, 99 John Street, 300 Water Street.
Used to work there. Any apartment off a Fulton St subway line works (2,3,4,5,a,c,j,r,z) which means almost anywhere. The walk from Fulton to 200 vessey is all inside so commuting is easy regardless of weather
Jersey City or Financial District. Brooklyn Heights/Downtown Brooklyn could work too
Yes it is, is $160K a good salary to find something in manhattan?
I make $160k base and I pay $3500. Tbh I’m not saving as much as I’d like. But I have my bonus and rsus kicking in next month so that will allow me to save more. I can’t imagine being able to make $4k a month rent work and not be a hermit.

Live in fidi or battery park so you can walk to work
I am sorry to hear you are moving to NYC, Mayor Adams, and Governor Hochul will love to get a chunk out of that 160k
I think it might be you that doesn’t have a clue, given that you’re argument supports me. What you receive from SS is the same whether you live in NYC or Texas or North Dakota or anywhere else. So if you’re devastated by NYC taxes, why not move somewhere else where the money you receive is the same but the taxes you pay on what you buy with that money are lower.

You might be able to locate a studio, or a room with roommates, right there in Battery Park City. Rents are going down right now so you might be able to catch a deal. If you do, get a nice, long lease!
Are you coming from 416
