I’m a lateral NEP candidate and am in the process of completing my LPQ. When it comes to references, what is the industry standard? My current firm would be the most relevant, but obviously I don’t intend to ask anyone there. Any insights into how one should go about selecting references (eg, judges for whom one has clerked, lawyers at prior firms even if you shifted practice areas)? Also, does the status of the person (eg, partner/counsel vs. associate) matter significantly?

What is the drug culture like at your office? I assume people don’t openly talk about what they do in their free time if illicit, but they may do so quietly or you can otherwise tell.
Do you get the impression many people do them? If so, soft drugs (ex - weed)? Hard drugs? Non-prescribed study drugs? Frequency? At work-sponsored social functions? To an extent that it’s noticeable/problematic?

So, this is a little awkward, but I recently moved to SD for a fresh start, and honestly, I love this city. My problem is I have been more of a homebody since I moved here and I'm a little intimidated to go out and meet people because I don't feel like I fit in here. I am overweight and this city is full of active, and attractive people. I guess I am wondering what my experience would be if I got out more? I feel like people look at me when I'm in public because I stand out due to my size.

Our firm is an LLP. We have NEP who receive K-1s instead of w-2 even though they have no ownership stake. Management claims NEP have to receive k-1s and can’t receive w-2 because the firm is an LLP. Are they right?
