I'm considering a management opportunity in my company and have a good chance of getting promoted. With young kids at home, more money always sounds good. But my current job is pretty chill with good family time, and I don't want to lose that. I'm not sure that I'm up for constant calls/emails. Would a salary bump make up for the bigger time commitment and stress?

If the bump up is within your present company I assume you have an idea of how demanding of your time the position would be. And it's a lot to consider, I'm sure. I always feel like I'm already too busy, and the last thing I'd want is to take on a management role. But, I'd also never say never, if the money was good enough I suppose I'd sacrifice the time and find a way to make it work.

I totally get it. I’ve passed on promotions for that exact reason. The money is nice, but if it costs you your peace and family time, it might not feel worth it long-term. Have you asked if the new role offers any flexibility?

How much of a bump?

laying off 1250 people and forcing everyone who didnt get laid off to make a post "offering support" doesnt make it better that you failed to plan appropriately and view your employees as dispensable when the going gets rough.

Dont buy into the propaganda these tech firms are putting out. And dont be that person with stockholm syndrome thanking your employer for a "great experience" when they threw you to the wolves as soon as it suited them.

I joined KPMG a while ago from federal consulting. Federal consulting had super good work life balance but I’ve been working at KPMG strategy for a while now. The hours are wild, my managers expect perfection, and I feel like it’s all meaningless. Does anyone else feel like this, how have you dealt with it, and is it like this once you go into industry?

Im a 6th year associate working for a company that I plan to stay at long term. Currently working under a G.C. that does not analyze anything from a legal perspective, occupies herself with mostly admin/operational issues, and doesnt give any direction on how she wants things “handled.” Just looking for any suggestions from people who have successfully dealt with this before.
