Salary recommendation: I have an interview next week for a mixed senior copywriter and senior PR consultant job at a very large, in-house organization. If you had 7-9 years of experience and were based in central US, what would you ask for? I’m thinking $125,000 based on where I am now, but I want to make sure I’m not undercutting myself.

Advice needed: I’m a SR CW looking for my next move. After hours and hours of applying and shuffling through job postings, I’m intrigued by the possibility of making a move to UX writing. My current company offers an education stipend that I could use towards an online course. After much research there are several courses that offer an “industry recognized certification”. So my question is, what’s the ROI on earning this certification? Should I go for it or just learn UX on the fly?

I'm a Sr & my cw is mid level, I have 2 more yrs of experience. We've been partners for 2 yrs and we're interviewing at an agency that doesn't have Jr,mid,Sr & are really precious about acd title, likening them to CDs.

At other places we've talked to we'd get respective promotions and raises but this agency wants to bring us in as a senior team. We don't have the same salary now and I'd feel a bit stiffed if they offer us the same salary.

Am I an asshole for feeling this way? Wwyd?

So, I interviewed for this job that I really want and then it got put on hold. I checked back with them since it had been a month and they said it was still on hold and mentioned how it sucked because all their writers have been really busy and they needed the extra help.

I don't really know how these things work but would it make sense to offer to help them as a part time freelance copywriter? Or if the budget isn't their for that position does freelance not work either?

Ad copywriter who’s freelancing outside of agency world, who do I ask for a reference/review from when finishing up a project? Project leader (who I had minimal interaction with) or day-to-day contact who is lower ranking but actually worked with me beyond the initial interview? At an agency I’d go straight to the CD, but this is a consultancy that doesn’t have that sort of structure.

First year copywriter. Was furloughed during Covid. Had an interview today with an agency that works mostly with the health and medical fields. The interview went well, but I’ve heard that medical copywriting is a creative death sentence. Does it make sense to take this job just to be employed and then try to wiggle back onto the more creative side of things later? Or should I stick it out until something else comes along?

I'm currently applying to a position at an agency independently and just got a call from my recruiter about a copywriter role for a different project at the same agency. I would take it if I don't get the first one but I'm a little confused as to what to do because the second one seems like it would start immediately but I don't want it as much as the first one. Any advice?

Why do job applications for art directors have way more requirements than copywriters these days? I’m sick of being expected to not only art direct and design, but to be the illustrator, animator, editor, 3D artist, UX/UI designer, etc. all while my copywriter friends snag interviews and gigs left and right with ease bc hiring managers just expect them to do the 1 job they’re supposed to do! I need a job and I’m so so so tired of it!

interviewing for an in-house job and i have no idea what salary to ask for bc im assuming it’s higher than what you can get at an agency? the role is senior copywriter (i have 5 years experience) for a fashion brand in a coastal city, entails a lot of responsibility and managing junior writers. 100k??? idk!

hey all, I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding professionally branding yourself with a partner as a copywriter/art director team? Have you had more success getting jobs as a team or solo? Also wondering how the application/interview process goes when looking for jobs as a professional partnership? I’ve come across a few AD/CW partners at my agency and would love some insight as to how this process goes.

My spec book gets me interviews for junior and mid copywriter positions, but when they ask me what kind of work I’m doing at my current agency, the whole conversation goes south. They either become immediately disinterested, or beam up and suddenly the interview is only about an open pharma role, which is more frustrating because if I want to stay in health I’d go for copy supervisor roles.

I had an interview last week for a Jr CW job. All went well it seemed. The CCO’s exact closing words were “You’re gonna have a great career. Your ideas are good”. Additionally, a CD there I contacted on LinkedIn said the CCO liked my book. But he ended by telling me they’re still getting things sorted out and to follow up this week. Don’t know if this is a bad sign I won’t get it or if I’m just being insanely impatient and unrealistic.

I got laid off in January and have been trying to find a new job since. I keep making it to the phone interview and sometimes a second interview, but always get ghosted. It’s so disheartening.

I have too much experience for an internship, and I have too little to be the top choice for copywriter roles. I know I’m a good writer, I know what I’m capable of, but it’s so exhausting trying to convince people. They always like my book but it’s never enough to get the gig. What can I do?

This is a shot in the dark but here it goes: about 5 years ago I remember a freelance copywriter in the bay area published a great LinkedIn article that documented all his efforts to land gigs with a write up and a link to his Google sheets file where you could see rounds of interviews/progress. The obvious takeaway: job hunts are a volume play, but the visual proof really brought the point to life.

Anyone happen to recall what I'm describing? If so can you post the link/individual?

Had an interview where the agency said they don't do "junior / mid / senior" levels in their creative department.

My CW and I are st that stage where that seniority is important for us and for our future progression. Is it one of those things that we fight for on the contract, or just sign anyway and just put "senior creative" on our LI title?

I've never come across this before, so any experience or thoughts are appreciated.
