How much time you got?
You know the math not really that hard: for 3 x :60, you’re going to want every bit of those 3 months and wish you had more. I can walk you through how I think about it offline—DM if you like.
And you be totally right, friend—good PMs both scarce as hens teeth and worth weight in gold.
Depends on the brand, the mentality of the clients, the internal process/stakeholders, and the creative vision.
This is probably the most feasible:
Month and a half for concepts and approvals.
- 2-3 rounds of reviews
Month for testing:
- 1 week for board-o-matics
- 2 weeks for testing and readout
- 1 week for “course correction”
Month and a half for production:
- 1 week for treatments
- 2 weeks for pre-production
- 1 week of shooting (depends on complexity/number of locations)
- 2 weeks of editing/finishing (depends on level of VFX)
This is a month longer than what you’ve got. But if you’re playing PM, you can make the case that you need it.
And that’s assuming everything goes swimmingly.
Im not worried about timing - 2-3 months is just to get to testing. I’m trying to see hours/creative so I can push back on the garbage SOW they sent me and wanted to make sure I’m not completely off base- would you say this is FT for a team straight through?
Definitely not FT straight through. Who has that luxury anymore? I’d put em at 30 hrs a week on this.
How many teams do you have working on this? Are you using 4 teams to get you to Round 1/Client preso and then scaling down to 2 or 3 teams to blow out scripts and storyboards? How senior are the teams? How senior are the clients? How many frames do you need for storyboards?
I would have 4 FT teams for 4 weeks. (8 people x 40 hours/week x 4 weeks) and then play with the hours from there. Better to ask for the most hours than to have to go back because you underscoped. Of course, if bs happens and the clients blow things up, that means re-scope.
Also, how’s the brief? If that’s not super solid I would cushion the creative hours by 20%.
Get all Stakeholders on board every step of the way.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. Def more than I was going to ask but I’ll bump a bit. We typically have to have teams juggle a lot more than concepting unfortunately. 2 teams, very senior / tv is their bread and butter - maybe I’ll pull a 3rd mid tier for initial concepts. Brief is great for once, I’ve got a solid partner in Strat.
