I think I've only worked a couple hours of overtime since starting here. I'm salaried, so none of it was paid. I'm guessing you are too since companies are legally required to pay hourly employees OT once they pass 40 hours. At least they are here in the US. I'm not sure if that's true across the pond.

It's not fair at all. If they expect more from us, they should at least offer proper compensation or additional days off as a way to balance it out.
That all depends on how the job is structured, and on the employment laws where you're located. Apart from that, just looking at it as a moral or ethical issue, you're correct, people should be compensated for whatever work you do. I recognize there may be times when you have to be flexible, and I've stayed late to get something done and haven't complained about it. Those were exceptional circumstances, I wouldn't let it happen too often.
