Any advice for approaching a maternity leave conversation when my company has no policy, no HR dept and I have no contract? I’m a partner shareholder in my company (we’re not in the US), 19 wks pregnant. I know the time off and pay I’d like to negotiate, but my partners are male and weird about money. I’m underpaid in a very senior 6 yr position, my job is stressful and around the clock, so I want proper leave. I can’t afford childcare and our govt stat leave is terrible, it won’t pay my bills.

Are manager health, dental, etc benefits firm paid usually? Ive always thought this to be the case, but ive never heard for sure. I know parking and cell phone is usually covered a lot of places.

How long do you have to freelance some place before they're required to allow you on heir healthcare plan? Does it vary by state?

I feel like quitting law after baby and being a mom FT. Will I regret it? I have worked very hard, brought in significant business for the firm - made partner this year (within 6 yrs) but it has been stressful. I tell myself I should practice at least 10 years but after accomplishing my initial career goals-I feel like I'm done.I don't care. I recently left a firm I had been with for 6 years. I opted to go with a smaller office in the same field of law where it seemed that things were going to be better. I was given the senior attorney position to help manage the removal defense department of an immigration office. From the day I started, I have felt duped - the dept has very little organization and I came to clean up a hot mess of a docket.
