A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.

There are definitely things you can do to avoid wearing any and still look presentable. For example, my eyebrows are microbladed and I have “permanent” lip color. I also work hard to make sure my skin looks nice even without makeup. Monthly facials, lasers, etc. that said, I don’t do any of these things for the job. I just enjoy looking and feeling pretty, but I’m also lazy. Basically, I do some high maintenance things to make my daily routine low maintenance— if you know what I mean.
All the things men don’t have to do!
As long as you’re clean, don’t feel pressured into cosmetic / aesthetic enhancements to be respected!
I do not wear makeup most days but I do wear mascara. I was nervous about it but the managing partner at my last firm is a woman and she doesn’t wear makeup. She is very respected in my field and she chose to let her hair go naturally grey and to not wear makeup. If she can do that, then I certainly can!
That said, there are definitely times that I choose to wear makeup but it’s always an intentional choice for me.
I hate this question for us. But I totally get where it's coming from. Early in my career my boss used to ask if I was sick when I didn't wear it. Like, no, bro, I just slept through the alarm. In subsequent jobs I started with less from the outset and it felt much better. For me, a minimal makeup face is tinted spf and mascara, but I definitely go plenty of days without getting even that on.
Not at all. No one expects the men to wear makeup.
I agree 100%. That said, I do think a little concealer under the eyes and tinted moisturizer could help men, especially on Zoom calls ;)
No but I do think this is highly location dependent. In Northern California, I’d say more women wear no/minimal makeup. In Texas, makeup is pretty standard.
I try to at least do a tinted SPF moisturizer.

It is absolutely not unprofessional to go without makeup. As someone with a conventionally attractive face, when I wear minimal makeup colleagues and clients compliment on my attractiveness more, so I don’t. We’re hired for our intellect, not to be pretty dolls.

A10, I did so because some people think of pretty privilege as a weight thing, so I wanted to specify face when we’re talking about makeup. There are studies about how attractive women are actually viewed more negatively in the workplace when they wear makeup akin to what an “average” or “above average” woman would wear. I get what you’re saying but I personally don’t view it as a “pass” because I don’t think women have to wear makeup. I’ve never seen a woman without makeup and thought they needed it to look professional.
A3, pretty privilege is absolutely a thing. People trust me more and want to help me more than what most people experience.
All the things men don’t have to do or consider!

I’m allergic to basically all makeup, except for one concealer (thanks, RMS beauty!). No one has ever commented. I try to keep my eyebrows well groomed, and I wear non-tinted Vaseline on my lips which can sort of pass for lip gloss. I do, however, always blow dry my hair, which makes it seem like I am still put together
I wear makeup because it’s my personal style (eyeliner with a little flick, mascara, concealer, blush/bronzer), and used to worry I’d be seen as overdone or not serious. But I just own it now. You do you. I mean, be clean and put together, brush your hair or whatever, but no need to wear makeup if you don’t want to.
Not unprofessional. I pile it on though LOL.
I would LOVE to not wear makeup. But my eyebags are just...there. lol.
I think consistency is key. No one notices (or cares) whether you do/don’t wear makeup. But they will probably notice if someone who wears makeup everyday suddenly shows up without it.
THIS. if I could go back in time to when I started I would have gone low- or no-makeup for the first several months!
I keep my makeup bag in my purse. 50/50 if I do it once I'm at work.
I find that the women attorneys in my office in SoCal wear very little makeup. Instead, they have great skincare and aesthetics work. I don't feel comfortable without anything so I'm usually in spot concealer, brow liner, mascara, gloss, and like a sheer cream eye shadow.
I never, ever wear it. Just too much hassle. You do you! No one at my firm has commented on it, at least, not to my face. I just cleanse, put moisturizer and SPF, and call it a day.
I agree it’s location dependent (but also comfort level). When I worked in Manhattan, I almost never left the house without mascara. That mentality lasted a few months since moving to Miami. Now I wear no makeup unless we have an event. Saves so much time AND skin definitely improved.
I also feel like if I were to show up without makeup (after years of makeup), everyone would be concerned. 😆 I need sleep and without makeup, I look it.
