I think that unless you’re being dismissive or somehow diminishing the person’s question/statement/whatever, which it doesn’t sound like you’re doing, you should just communicate in the way that is natural for you.
Did someone suggest that you should change your communication style?
I think the point of subtle communication is to understand what other people are communicating subconsciously.
If you are listening to someone and find what they say is interesting, then by all means say that. If you’re saying that because you weren’t really listening and don’t know how else to respond, then yeah, don’t say that.
Also gestures and facial expressions can say a lot - or conflict with what a person is saying. So read up on body language and ask people close to you for feedback

Saying “interesting” requires a qualifier. Why/how is it interesting? Otherwise it just comes off as dismissive or maybe even a little condescending. Example: someone tells you a story and you just say “interesting.” Seems like you don’t care or you find the story boring. Instead say “that’s interesting because..”

I don’t like this whole subtle communication and don’t care for it. It creates room for passive aggressiveness. Just say what you mean. And mean what you say. I can’t read your mind lol. So, people need to communicate with me openly and clearly and I will do the same in return.
