Is there any advice for networking into projects when you don’t know many people at the firm yet? I always to help on BD work when I’m on the bench, but it never turns into any billable work. Every time I have talked to a partner/senior manager I was told I don’t have the skill set they’re looking for, but I don’t know how to build up from there. Feeing very lost but I want to improve my approach.

I got lucky with BD that became a project to get on my current project. I wasn’t sought after enough to just get right on a project. Keep doing the BD and maybe you’ll get lucky one time. That being said, try whatever else makes sense also, just don’t knock the BD to billable project route since it’s a solid way for people like us to get billable work.

Are you staff/senior?

Setup calls with people at the firm. Introduce yourself, express your interests, and offer your services if there’s an opportunity that may be good for you.

like

No problem. Just ask everyone you talk to what’s in the pipeline.

There's also a decent amount of training being offered right now on the various topics. If you can get engaged in those, you can use that to start conversations around being staffed on those projects

helpful

Reach out to your network and ask them if they know anyone there. Then schedule a call stating you learned about them from your friend. Explain your strengths and what you are interested in and go from there.

I found the most luck by putting my heart and soul into BD, performing well and then having the partner pull me along when something billable does come up. By being their go to for BD work when things were really slow, I became top of mind when a role I was a rough fit for did appear. Warning: there’s a bit of ass kissing involved but at least I’ve been billable and busy.

All the advice on here has been great. I would also say try to recognize the partners who will actually try to staff you. There are partners who I have done a ton of BD work for, but then don’t try to actively staff me on their projects. Whereas I’ve done other BD work and that partner will always ask if I’m
Interested in XYZ project he just sold. So find the ones who are interested in pulling you along. It takes more time to find these people but then that’s a well you can always go back to.

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

I have joined Nagarro almost a year now as a senior architect. However, I see lot of issues here. The company is great so far as employee friendliness is concerned. It may be rated as the top most company in that regard and that is why attrition is well within control. However, there are issues:

1. Project Allocation - allocated to projects without fitment with the role or skills. No internal job portal

2. Lots of seniors in bench for long time

3. No way to give company feedback
