Looking for advice, I was basically terminated because a lot of office gossip about me and my personality circulated (first people though I was mean because my previous supervisor assigned my desk away from the rest pf the department so I could be close to her, then I was told I was laughing too much and it apparently made staff think I was gossiping about them). The quality or content of my work was never questioned. How can I best explain this to prospective employers without sounding petty?

You avoid any of those details like the plague. Say ……

“It wasn’t the right fit culturally, and we mutually agreed to part ways. I’m now looking for a role that’s a better match for my skills and work style.”

Agreed ^ . You don’t explain, you address it with one sentence like MS1 said and then move on. The goal should be to keep the conversation focused on how you can contribute to your prospective employer (forward-looking, positive, productive) and spend minimal time addressing the past.

Mentioning this in any capacity would make you come off as potentially problematic. Plenty of phrases you can use if asked why you're exploring new roles-- looking for my next challenge, new opportunity, i love the work your company is doing, etc.

Use this as an opportunity for a clean slate and new start. Take what you learned from the situation and do better in your next role but it will only harm your case if you mention in interviews.

I’m so sorry you had to go through all this. Sounds like a terrible culture.

One thing I like to use is to say they the role didn’t turn put to be what was promised, skewed towards different skillset, lack of growth opportunities.

Wishing you the best of luck and nice coworkers 🍀

I disagree with above. No one will know you are terminated until a background check and you really have no need to share that piece of information and they should not be asking why you left or are leaving your last job. If you are sending out your resume and now have an end date on your most recent experience, you have a couple of options. Your first option is that you leave it that way and when approached about why you left your last job, you can just say that you wanted to explore New opportunities. I don't know how long you have been at your previous company, but if it's more than or around 4-5 years, I think it's totally okay to say that you wanted a bit more from your career and now are exploring opportunities that align better with your values and just leave it at that. But really it's not something they should be asking you. If anything, it's more proper for them to ask you why you want to work for their company or what you are looking for in your next role. But if they are asking you why you're leaving your previous role, do not mention anything about parting ways with the last company. Do not mention about being fired. Just be vague. Say you want to work for an employer that more closely aligns with your values and be ready to talk about what your values are. Your other option is to not have that job be the most recent thing on your resume and do something to self-employ yourself. I don't know. Say that you are pursuing side projects in an exploratory way to either upskill or you know Find your passion and for it to be a creative outlook for you. so you wanted to give yourself some time to explore those things and now you have and so now you're looking to get back into the workforce.

I have a question about pricing. Some context to my upcoming question: My brother and I are starting a personal training business. I have six years military experience and he is still in the military. Collectively we have passed the hardest schools in the military and both love fitness and have experience building programs and are both certified personal trainers. I don’t know weather we should charge on the higher spectrum because of our experience or lower because of our business infancy.

I joined fishbowl a month ago and while I’ve seen a couple contentious debates but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at how respectfully ppl comment on this app even when disagreeing. Usually anonymity on the internet brings out the absolute worst in ppl; they type things anonymously that they would NEVER say in person smh. But I really haven’t seen horrible comments here. I wonder what makes this app diff frm others?

This question is quite broad and subjective but would love to hear some thoughts. For a couple with family income of about 60 LPA in India, is it wise to move to Canada/UK via the PR route? I have seen no matter how much experience you have, it's usually about building up from scratch.
