It’s extremely common in today’s economy. Salaries increased quickly since 2020 and now many employees are in fact overpaid vs what the market rate is today which is why many companies have had layoffs. This is a typical cycle of increases to retain only to let go later. Companies work leaner with less staff, hiring freezes, and no raises. Most now in today’s market no one’s leaving so they have no real downside.
