Don’t talk about how it makes you feel - discuss objective facts
1. I’ve had some of my leadership tasks delegated away from me.
2. I’d like to discuss taking some of those tasks back on if possible or adding similar tasks that utilize my expertise and experience
3. What areas of improvement/growth would you recommend for me to continue to grow in my role?
Be ready for a no for #2 or them asking why you want to take on those types of tasks. Remember to not speak about the way it makes you feel or your anxiety but cold objective facts.
For #3, you need to be ready to hear criticism without taking it personally - I usually stay quiet and listen and then thank them for their feedback and that I’ll use it to improve. If I think it’s unfair or misunderstood, I take a few days to let it sink in, let myself feel emotional about it and then think about how and when I can address their perception. Sometimes it’s a conversation, sometimes it’s showing them via my future work products.
"Just state the facts." That's great advice. Thank you. I think I'm ready for the criticism, mainly cuz I'm always afraid I did something wrong, but like I said, I love my job, and I want to keep working here. I want to get better and I want to be a bigger part one day.
