"How do you train yourself or your team to add value without coming across as pushy?" Focus extensively on the first part of that: adding value. That's what customers need to be sold on, not the product features.
Pro
Exactly. When the focus is on solving the customer’s need rather than pushing a product, it naturally feels more like good service than a sales pitch. If the recommendation genuinely makes their experience better, it rarely comes across as pushy. It’s really about listening first and then suggesting something that actually fits.
I just always try to be genuine and honest. I have gotten good at upselling because I am genuine with people and they can sense that. I really just try to help them from a good place.
Pro
That’s a great approach. People can usually tell when someone is being genuine versus just trying to make a sale. When the focus is on actually helping them find something that works for them, the upsell happens naturally and doesn’t feel forced.
