Yes to all of this. I realized I was craving connection but waiting for someone else to make the first move. Lately, I’ve started initiating tiny things—inviting a coworker for a walk, asking another mom to coffee after drop-off, even joining a local book club. Not every effort sticks, but a few have turned into real connections. It takes more energy now, but it’s so worth it.
Honestly it can be difficult to make friends but I have found that the friendships i have now are stronger than any I ever had before. You kind of just have to get out there and find your tribe so to speak.
I hadn't really built any new friendships. However, I make the effort to foster the ones I've had for 20- 30 years. Even if you have to put something on your calendar to do check-in's, do that. In addition, everyone in my friend circle is married and so the husband's keep in touch which helps to keep everyone connected as well. Oh, we also maintain a group chat that's pretty active.
I look for local Facebook groups geared towards exactly this. There are so many of us out there craving meaningful friendships and floundering in the dark. Meetup is a great place to find like minded people in your area and you get to do something you enjoy. Having a dog has allowed me to meet and bond with many of my neighbors, but when you're super busy, taking on another "chore" can be overwhelming and challenging.
Just know that you're not alone and as I get older am actually finding this a very common experience.
PS: I'm in NJ if you ever want to grab a coffee 😂
