Plaintiff PI: What was your experience like when you started out fresh? My boss keeps throwing me random hearings to attend, most of which are on status, for cases that I haven’t worked on before so then I’m just getting last minute summaries of where we are in the case and what should happen at the hearing but the guidance is sometimes vague and even my boss isn’t always totally sure of where the case is at. Is that “normal”? I wish the learning process was a bit more…structured, I guess.

Word of advise..PI work is good if you are the attorney handling directly cases. If you work for a PI firm, learn as much as possible and run, or make partner

Sounds like when I started, fwiw.

I had no structured learning curve or introduction. It was very much sink or swim, but in a way less negative way than that sounds.

Definitely standard but it does suck

Par for course across the industry. Don’t sweat it and just roll with it all. Always remember you are not defined by your job and that’s all this is - your job. Law has an awful overall culture where you’re supposed to make this your whole identity and there’s a lot of workplace abuse that stems from that. Don’t get hurt (easier said than done!) when things don’t work out for your in these situations because your jackass boss doesn’t prepare you the way they should!

In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

Anyone know a Connecticut or 2nd circuit case for this rule? I can’t find one to save my life. A defendant generally is liable for all harmful results that are the normal incidents of and within the increased risk caused by their negligent acts. If a defendant's negligence was a substantial factor in producing the plaintiff's injuries, the element of proximate cause has been satisfied and the defendant would not be relieved from liability for those injuries even though another force concurred..
