Probably a long shot, but any hedge fund Portfolio Manager here?

I’m still relatively early in my career, and I recently got two job offers for:
1. a PM role running a niche strategy
2. a sub-PM role, but I can learn a few more strategies while running my thing on the side

Pay probably better for 1 in shorter terms, but 2 in longer horizon pricing in the learnings.

Q for fellow PMs - is it actually good to become a PM early? How much of your alpha comes from the market, or a previous boss?

Curious how this past year has been for everyone? Are account balances pulling your income down? Or has you book been growing? New clients? Are current clients implementing more because they realize they hand no idea what to do? Or is everyone still scared and sitting in cash and short term fixed income?

I just want to say to the Indian managers / SMs etc. stop taking everything so seriously and stressing people out on your teams. I have had managers who put initiative work so high in importance that it stresses me out about client work. Chill out and stop emailing on weekends. Hang out with your families! Doesn’t mean don’t work hard but chill the heck out people. Clearly this is just a job that doesn’t pay you well enough in the first place why are you stressing other people out too?!
