I’m afraid the only way through this is to Karen-up and speak to his Manager. Speak first, that way you control the narrative.
document everything! in the meantime sure, you could go to his manager but it kinda sounds like maybe, just maybe, he wanted your job and didn’t get it so resents you. could be helpful to have a 1:1 and let him know that you enjoy working with him, think he’s super talented and appreciate all his work. ask him what you can do to support him in making sure files are set up and backed up correctly, and in making sure direction is communicated clearly. send a very friendly email recap of the convo that comes off as praise and excitement about collaborating better. stroke the ego, encourage better performance, all while documenting both the issues and what you’ve done to address them
Help manage.. do you directly manage this person?
That’s what I plan on doing.
He also tried to undermine my direction to the producers and developers in a meeting today on a series of projects. I had to goods to back up the direction.
